Oncology
The Department of Oncology provides a comprehensive medical (non-surgical) service for patients with cancer. Services include inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy, non-surgical treatment of cancer and supportive and palliative care.
We offer a day unit service, inpatient service, outpatient clinic service and consultation service. The day unit facility provides a location for assessment of patients, both in the elective and emergency setting, chemotherapy administration and supportive care in conjunction with the palliative medicine service. The service also provides for the education and development of future medical oncologists and clinical nurse specialists.
Patients may also be eligible to take part in a clinical trial of a new cancer treatment. All patients have access to an oncology liaison nurse who will provide them with relevant and personal information and advice.
The oncology service is staffed by a team of specialists including medical oncologists, oncology nurse specialists, social workers, dieticians and psycho-oncologists.
