Breast, Endocrine and General Surgery
The Department of Breast, Endocrine and General Surgery offers three separate services:
- Symptomatic breast service
- Endocrine surgical service
- General surgery and melanoma service
Symptomatic breast service
In our symptomatic clinic, we see patients with initial complaints or concerns relating to their breasts as well as patients who have had breast cancer and require follow up (which will include yearly mammograms). All patients are assessed for their individual risk of developing breast cancer based on their family history.
The service includes:
- Triple assessment (clinical, radiological and pathological assessment)
- Benign breast disease
- Breast cancer
- Familial breast cancer risk assessment
- Prophylactic surgery (risk-reducing mastectomy, immediate reconstruction, and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy)
Please note the Symptomatic Breast Clinic can no longer accept GP referrals sent by fax. All referrals must be sent using the new National Breast Symptomatic Referral Form via Healthlink.
Endocrine surgical service
Here we assess patients with endocrine disorders that will include problems with thyroid, parathyroid or adrenal glands. The vast majority of patients will not need surgery but this will be discussed at the clinic if required. Blood tests, urine tests and x-rays may also be necessary.
The service includes:
- Triple assessment (clinical, radiological and pathological assessment)
- Benign breast disease
- Breast cancer
- Familial breast cancer risk assessment
- Prophylactic surgery (risk-reducing mastectomy, immediate reconstruction, and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy)
General surgery and melanoma service
The general surgical clinics provide outpatient consultations to patients referred by their GP with a range of general surgical disorders such as skin lesions, lumps, hernias, gallstones etc.
The service includes:
- Skin lesion excision
- Hernias
- Pilonidal disorders
