St. Vincent’s University Hospital Wins General Healthcare Centre of the Year Award at the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards 2017

One the 10th March, St. Vincent’s University Hospital (SVUH) was awarded the prestigious award of General Healthcare Centre of the Year Award at the annual Irish Healthcare Centre of the Year Awards 2017. This was a fantastic accolade for SVUH and all of its’ employees which demonstrated the hospital’s firm commitment to innovation, staff training and compliance and community engagement.
SVUH supported three applications for the awards and were also successful in winning an award under the Healthcare Department Initiative – Cost Saving Measure category for the hospital’s Nurse Practice Development (NPD) project on the “Bold Move of Banning Soap” which resulted in significant cost saving efficiencies for the acute level four hospital.
Speaking about the hospital’s double success at the awards, Professor Michael Keane, Acting CEO of SVUH said:
“It is fantastic to see St. Vincent’s University Hospital recognised on a national level by the prestigious Irish Healthcare Centre Awards judging panel. We are delighted that our hospital stood out for the judging panel in both the General Healthcare Centre of the year Awards category and in the Healthcare Department Initiative – Cost Savings Measure category. We pride ourselves in always putting our patients first and actively achieving safer better standards and quality improvement initiatives on a daily basis.”
Sinead Brennan, Quality and Accreditation Manager at the hospital’s Quality and Patient Safety Department accepted the General Healthcare Centre of the Year Award on behalf of SVUH and said:
“Our Board in SVUH created the space for innovation and continuous quality improvement as part of our international accreditation process – Joint Commission International (JCI). We have over 2,500 staff working in SVUH and every single member of our staff has been recognised having received this national award for our exceptional dedication to patient centred care, to quality improvement and our voluntary commitment in meeting and achieving international accreditation standards. The hospital’s journey throughout the on-going JCI re-accreditation process (which is a three year cycle) strengthens and reaffirms the hospital’s absolute focus and commitment to ensuring safe care for our patients.”
The Irish Healthcare Centre of the Year Awards 2017 took place in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoighaire on the 10th March, with over 500 healthcare attendees representing both public and private health care institutions. There were 26 awards categories in total.
Members of this years’ judging panel comprised of a mix of leading health care professionals, healthcare managers and educators including; Dr Jack Nagle, CEO Alpha Healthcare, Robin Webster, former CEO of Age Action, Dr. Jim Browne, President, National University of Ireland Galway and Professor. Catherine Comiskey, Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin. The awards event was sponsored by Fresenius Kabi.
